Testimonial from USTU alumni Adriana Swain

julio 11, 2026

Former USTU resident Adriana Swain shared her thoughts on her experience living at Urban Soil Tierra Urbana.

“I lived at USTU for a little over five years and I can honestly say it was one of the most formative experiences of my life. From learning to grow your own food, how to share resources and how to facilitate collective decision making. USTU is invaluable in teaching folks the skills for collective stewardship of land and space. It is an oasis of community and interdependence modeling an alternative way of being in a world that is becoming hyper-individualized, monetized and privatized.”

Adriana was board secretary for L.A. Co-op Lab. Adriana lives in Bristol, U.K. where she presently works at Tipping Point, U.K. Prior to moving to England, Adriana was Board Secretary of the Beverly-Vermont Community Land Trust. Adriana holds an M.S. in Environment, Politics and Development from SOAS, University of London and is passionate about expanding community control over vital resources.
